How Young Can I Start my Kids Up for Music Lessons

Your Child Can Start as Early as Age 3

Using the Suzuki method, a child can start at age 3. At Oregon City Music academy, we offer the Suzuki method for the violin. For most instruments, at age 5 your kid’s hands and minds are functional enough to start learning to play an instrument using the classical method of teaching music lessons.

Is your Child Ready for Piano Lessons?

Piano lessons provide excellent training for your child’s brain. The lessons and practice sessions support memory development, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills. It is important to consider a few factors to set your child up for success. If your child knows the difference between left and right and can count to four, they are mentally ready for the piano. A final, and perhaps the most important factor is whether they are motivated to focus.

Is your Child Ready for Violin Lessons?

The violin is one of the most versatile instruments to learn. It is often called the queen of instruments. Not only can you play classic, fiddling, and pop music on the violin, but unlike Piano and Guitar you are open to musical styles that are unique to the violin from Asian, and Eastern cultures. Just like the piano, or any music lesson, you want to address a few questions to see if the violin is right for your child. The rewards of playing the violin require time and effort. Is your child willing to appreciate the time required to practice? A final, and perhaps the most important factor is whether they are motivated to focus. A violin is a somewhat challenging instrument but yields great rewards in the long run.
