Oregon City Music academy offers Viola Lessons

Oregon City Music academy offers Viola Lessons for kids. We offer classical training as well as the Suzuki Method. The Suzuki method is based on his approach that musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability that can be developed. Any child, who is professionally trained, can develop musical ability, just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue. The potential of every child is unlimited.

Viola is the Perfect Instrument to Learn

While the violin is a more recognizable instrument, learning to play the less common viola can be a fun and rewarding alternative. The viola provides a student with a repertoire that is fun to play. From jazz to pop, or classical to contemporary, many styles of music can be played on the viola. In addition, the viola’s register is within the range of the human which produces a rich, mellow sound. As there are only a small population of musicians all over the globe who plays viola fluently, you can consider yourself as one in a million. Playing the viola (instead of the violin or the flute, for example) could give your child access to ensembles, educators, and institutions that might otherwise remain out of reach—opportunities that open doors to camps, colleges, and beyond. In addition, violists develop traits of patience, discipline, and are known to learn things easily and adapt well to various environments.

What to Expect on your First Lesson

Your instructor will get to know your child. We will talk about goals musical preferences and interests.  Then we help them become familiar with their viola. Next, you’ll go over the names of the different parts of the viola and the bow and talk about how to care for each. From scroll to end button and tip to heel, you’ll want to get familiar with your new instrument as well as its accouterments, a cake of rosin (rubbed on the bow and used to increase friction between the bow hair and the viola strings), and shoulder rest.
